What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?
A Digital Product Passport is a structured digital record of a product's sustainability, materials, origin and lifecycle information, accessed by scanning a data carrier such as a QR code. Under the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), DPPs will become mandatory for product groups sold in the EU — textiles among the first.
Is the Digital Product Passport mandatory today?
Not for every product yet. ESPR entered into force in 2024 and sets the framework; product-specific delegated acts define the exact requirements and dates for each product group. Textiles are a priority group, with rollout expected from the 2027+ horizon. Preparing your product data now avoids a last-minute migration.

Which product categories will need a DPP?
ESPR phases categories in. Textiles — including apparel and footwear — are among the first wave, followed by other priority groups on the EU's working plan. If you sell textile products into the EU, you are in the first wave.
